Youth Clean Up

Every year, at least 14 million tons of plastic finds its way into our oceans, and up to 90% of it comes from river systems. Major rivers around the world carry an estimated 2 million tons of plastic into the sea every year – that’s up to 100,000 rubbish trucks.   Littering and inadequate waste disposal, combined with lack of adequate waste collection services have resulted in many polluted areas nationwide, especially across Bloekombos. Poor environmental awareness and negligent habits have escalated the rate of pollution in informal areas. Lofdal Park is one such area, and the litter at the entrance is a risk to the health and safety and community members and children who pass the area to go to school.
